Fifteen-year-old Ashley, a sponsored teen from our Tondo site in the Philippines, was a passenger in a motorcycle accident in August.

Chalice critical needs - Metal plates for Ashley's arm, PhilippinesHer arm was badly fractured in the accident. She was rushed to Tondo Medical Center but was referred to Philippine Orthopedic Hospital as Tondo Medical Center is not equipped to handle orthopedic cases. Ashley was diagnosed with an open fracture, and requires surgery and insertion of metal plates.

The metal plates must be brought in by the hospital and she must remain in the hospital until she has her surgery. The family must pay for the plates and the hardware to secure them at a cost of $2,766.49.

Ashley's father used to be a construction worker, but his company has closed due to the pandemic. He accepts odd jobs in the community, but they don't pay well and he can't find work every day. The cost of the plates and hardware far exceeds her father's ability to pay.

Along with the employment challenges caused by the pandemic, this accident has made life more difficult for both Ashley and her father. He is her primary caregiver and wants her to have the opportunity to live a normal life in good health. Our sponsor site director has come to Chalice for assistance to enable the family to pay these costs.
