Annie, 47,is the single mother of 14-year-old Eddie who is sponsored through our Serenje Site in Zambia.
Annie lost the use of her legs after contracting polio at the age of seven. She is confined to a wheelchair. Annie lives with her younger sister who is also a single mother of a young boy, and the four of them live together in a small house with no inside toilet. The pit toilet is located 100 meters from the house and Annie requires someone to assist her to use it. It is especially difficult during rainy weather.
Both Annie and her sister are very hard workers. Annie uses a sewing machine to make different types of clothing - the sewing machine was given to her by a well-wisher some time ago. Her sister has a small business selling fritters. They had begun to build a new home recently with an inside toilet and a bathtub to make life a little easier for Annie. However, business has been slow lately for both of them and they are struggling to meet the basic needs for the two families.
In addition, Annie's wheelchair is no longer working very well and is very uncomfortable to sit on - often causing sores to develop.
The cost to complete the build of the home with inside toilet and bathtub, along with a wheelchair that is reasonably comfortable and in working order, is estimated to be $3,130. Annie and her family are in desperate need of some help.
Our sponsor site director has come to Chalice to provide financial assistance for Annie and her family in their time of need.
