The family lives in a mud-brick house with mud floors in an impoverished area of Chiclayo. The house is owned by the grandparents.
Juli's husband gets occasional work as a construction labourer while Juli was at home. She participated in Project Chiclayo, a project supported by Chalice, designed to help women and families improve their prospect for a better future.
Early in 2015, Juli was diagnosed with a stage 3 cancerous tumor in her uterus, for which she received Chalice critical need assistance in order to receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy which was considered successful for a period of time.
Her cancer returned as a tumor in one of her lungs. She was urgently hospitalized and a new round of treatment began for a serious lung infection and despite the best efforts of the medical staff, her weakened body succumbed to her illness.
This has been a difficult four-year journey for the family, who have no means to cover all of Juli's recent medical bills and small funeral. Our sponsor site in Chiclayo has asked Chalice for support in paying these expenses.
