Mykola-Valentyn is 13 years old and lives with his parents and two brothers. He is in grade seven and is blessed with the support of a Chalice sponsor through the Pochaiv sponsor site.

Sr. Jane’s surgery and post-surgery care, Meru, Kenya

Mykola-Valentyn was born with a rare skin disease called epidermolysis bullosa, which makes his skin very fragile and prone to blistering. He has wounds on his body that are itchy and difficult to heal, and it also affects his eyes, nose, mouth, and throat. He often sleeps poorly because of his discomfort. Every day, his mother Maryana makes 2-3 bandages for him from special dressing bandages and ointments.

A complication of his condition is a narrowed esophagus. Paired with his mouth and dental complications, he has significant difficulty eating. As a result, he is underweight, anemic, and deficient in key vitamins. He needs a special diet, and daily nutritional supplements in the form of tablets, drinks, and powders.

While his parents do receive some state support, it is not enough to cover his many medications, dressings, and special diet. They cannot afford to provide their son the intensive treatment he needs.

The Pochaiv sponsor site staff have therefore requested $2,703.08 CAD to cover three months’ worth of his medication. With adequate medication and nutrition for a sustained period, his skin will have a better chance to heal, and he will be able to restore some weight and improve his quality of life.
