Vanaja's husband passed away, and so she has been supporting her girls as a cook in a small hotel. Her youngest, Kaviya, is blessed with a Chalice sponsor who is supporting her studies in university, where she is pursuing an education in commerce. Vanaja's eldest is working in retail.
Vanaja, 41, started having abdominal pain in the summer, and her doctors prescribed medication to treat it. But the pain intensified and prompted her to get an abdominal ultrasound. It revealed a non-cancerous growth between the muscles of her uterus, which requires surgery to treat.
She was admitted to the hospital on December 23 and underwent surgery the next day. She stayed under observation for three days and was discharged in good condition. Her doctors gave her medication for her post-operation recovery at home.
While Vanaja and her girls are relieved that the pain is gone, the bills for her medication, surgery, and associated costs cam to $649.86 CAD, which exceeds her humble means. The Tamil site staff therefore put forward a request for assistance with these bills, so Vanaja can focus on recovering her health.
