Photo Friday: Our top 5 ‘Healthcare’ photos.

Welcome to Photo Friday! Each Friday, we share photo collections of our favourite shots from our sponsor sites around the world.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned this past year-and-a-half, it’s that healthcare workers are the backbone of society. They’ve worked long hours during hard times, and we can’t thank them enough.

This week, we’re honouring our brave medical professionals with our top 5 ‘Healthcare’ photos. We can’t get by without them!

#5: Nursing Her Dreams

Susmitha has dreamed of being a nurse since she was a little girl! It wasn’t certain she would achieve her dream, though, as she went to a lower-quality school. That all changed when her Chalice sponsor chose her. Her parents were thrilled, and enrolled Susmitha and her siblings in a better school.

She’s now attended nursing school, and says her sponsor made her feel a part of their family in Canada. She extends a big ‘thank you’ to her sponsor for making her dream come true!

#4: Pearly Whites

In many impoverished communities, it’s still difficult for children to access adequate dental care. That’s why the ‘Zero Cavities’ initiative at our Tondo site has been so important.

Tooth decay and gum disease are widespread issues, and toothaches are a common reason many children miss school. Almost 100% of children at the site were originally diagnosed with tooth decay. The program was first launched in 2017 to combat these issues, in partnership with the Filipino Chinese Dental Association.

Two years later, 70.61% of the children had received complete oral rehabilitation, while the rest were still in treatment.

Now that’s something to smile about!

#3: Dedicated Doctor

Abdul lives near our Assam site in India, and his greatest dream is to be a doctor. Born with a disability in his hands, his family worried he’d be held back. But tenacious Abdul learned to write with two fingers, and his Chalice sponsor helped support him throughout his education. In fact, his grades were so high in grade 10, newspaper and television reporters interviewed him!

He hopes to one day take care of his parents, and help others who face health challenges like his.

#2: A Nutritious Diet

Thanks to Chalice supporters, children at our Bulacan site in the Philippines were thrilled to receive a new shipment of food. The children have been dealing with the effects of COVID-19, and especially during this time, they need vitamin-rich diets.

Though not all Chalice supporters are healthcare professionals, they’re all working to support the health of children around the world!

#1:Nuns On the Job

At our Maduri site in India, nuns play an important role in keeping children healthy. Sr. Fatima lives at the Holy Cross Convent, which has a children’s hostel attached. The Sisters care for the children by providing meals, helping with homework, and running rec activities. Of course, there’s also a clinic where children receive checkups and treatment for mild conditions.

Follow Chalice on Facebook and Instagram for daily updates from our sponsor sites, impact stories, and more! Be sure to check back next week for another Photo Friday.
